Litton Weslyan Chapel was built in the reign of William IV in
1834 on land that was sold for £10 to a trust set up for
the purpose of building and administering a chapel for Methodist
worship. The eleven men in the trust came from as far a field
as Derby and Stockport, each of various professions: one a tobacconist,
one a needle manufacturer and several were farmers. They all desired
that Methodists should have a voice in Litton.
Through the years, the trust administered the work of the chapel
under a succession of ministers. In 1965 the chapel was finally
registered for the solemnisation of marriages. Today the chapel
still holds weekly services and has a widely attended flower festivaland
exhibition during Wakes Week which coincides with the patronal
festival of Tideswell Parish Church at the ned of June.
