| Methodism
in Baslow |
Methodism came to Baslow in 1793, and the original Baslow chapel
building was opened in 1796. In 1822 the Methodist church decided
to build a place to be a Sunday School.
"Only John Wesley's doctrines were taught. Upstairs
was used for Religious Instruction, and the lower room reading
and writing. So great were the numbers of children attending that
boys and girls had to attend the chapel on alternate Sundays.
The was the first school in the village" quoted from
Celia Miller's History of Baslow Methodist Church.

In the late 1970's under the leadership of Rev. John Job, it was
decided to sell the chapel and develop the Sunday School building
to become a chapel. The new building opened on Palm Sunday 1981.
As there are still members who remember the opening well, we hold
our Chapel anniversary each year as near as possible to the opening
date.
